Running a competition
Hello, it’s your favourite digital marketing folk
Just in case you missed it…
Last week we ran a competition – yes, a competition! Why? Because we wanted to connect, create a conversation and reach a wider audience.
Running a competition can be a super simple way to up your outreach and raise that brand profile of yours. Here’s what we did, and why it worked!
Stuck to local
Firstly, we sat down, deciding which businesses we wanted to work with. The main factors when choosing these included: prizes our customers would want to win, small-sized, local to our office and brands we’ve used and loved. In turn, we also decided to narrow the search to just Guiseley. This was due to our wanting to support those around us and showcase to more people the brilliant businesses we have in our little town! Working here Monday-Friday, we’ve grown to form a community and believe in helping each other to grow
When starting a competition, it’s always worth looking at collaborating with those around you. Giving back to the community and forming relationships with local businesses can be very beneficial. It also shows your audience you’re not just a service but also a person.

Collaborated posts
After choosing our 4 collaborators, it was essential we could combine our following and gain the most attraction. To do this, we set up the collaboration posts feature on Instagram, meaning when shared, both our accounts would have the post on our feed. This ensured both our following were made aware, helping boost results.
Additionally, to help boost the post, we also shared to stories as reminders throughout the week, asked followers to share, posted on Facebook and engaged with any comments. This collectively helped excel our social performance.

Boosted awareness
Furthermore, we created a promotional video explaining the concept of the giveaways and when it would take place. To create a buzz, we boosted this on Facebook and Instagram, using specified targeting to reach those relevant. This is a great way to quickly and cost-effectively advertise an event or service!
Why not look at boosting your competition? It’s a great way of gaining more awareness.

Promoted in local groups
Another great way to improve your outreach is to post in community Facebook groups. This helps position yourself in the community and be seen by local people in your area. As most groups have barriers of entry, requiring you to live in the area, you can have confidence that you’re reaching the relevant audience. It’s also completely free to post, making it a cost-effective option!

Video-form content
We also made the decision to use short-form video content, with real people in front of the camera. This allowed us to introduce a human element to our socials and show our audience we were relatable, trustworthy marketers. It showed the people behind the brand, which is a lot easier to invest in compared to static content.

Conclusion of running a competition
In conclusion, this giveaway resulted in 50% growth in followers, establishing a stronger relationship with local businesses, engagement with the community, and giving away some cool prizes!
